I am in the final stretch of Ranch, but can no longer bear to look at it. I'm at a very fiddly part in the pattern, but I'm not in the mood for fiddly. I want predictable. I want tried, tested and true. I want mindless click-clack between my fingers as I focus on Jack Bauer's next move. Ranch has been abandoned for my brother's Birthday Socks.
Because they are a surprise, I didn't measure my brother's feet and have had to guess at how many stitches to cast on. A survey of free men's socks pattern was helpful and I think I'll use the Harlot's Knitting Rules to figure out the length. I would have used my husband's feet as a model, but he has gigantic feet which are not representative of the normal human species. He is possibly a sasquatch with a deleterious mutation that has rendered him virtually hairless. Or maybe it's a dominant mutation and sasquatch have been roaming among us, undetected and playing professional basketball, for decades.
Anyway...I am really enjoying these socks. I had forgotten how much I liked the Lorna's Laces Sheppard Sock yarn. It's very smooshy and the colours haven't started doing anything to make me crazy (and hopefully won't start). These socks are so relaxing in the storm of job interviews and writing deadlines that is my life right now. This is deliciously ironic because the colourway is "Baltic Sea" which doesn't exactly conjure up images of calm or relaxation. It fact, it makes me a bit cold. Another respite in my California life.
Enjoyed catching up on your knitting projects, mother's stash, and CA adventures.
I am high on the election. Still procrastinating about getting back to knitting. You inspire.
